Whether you’re making million-dollar deals, forging new friendships, or seeking a supportive romantic partner, strong connections are key to personal and professional growth.
Today, I want to talk about something game-changing: how relationships lead to financial success. I recently closed a $2 million deal, and it wasn’t just because of a great proposal, it was because I focused on building real, genuine connections. Let’s get into how you can do the same.
People Do Business with People They Trust
Many believe that business is purely about skills and expertise. While those are important, people want to work with people they trust. They want to know that when challenges arise, you’ll be there, and not just as a business partner but as someone they can rely on.
When I landed my latest deal, I did three key things:
- Showed up as my authentic self – I didn’t try to be a corporate robot. I asked questions beyond business, making a personal connection.
- Built a solid proposal – Of course, having a well-crafted proposal is crucial, but I personalized it to showcase what made me different.
- Had meaningful conversations – I didn’t jump straight into business talk. Instead, I took time to get to know my client, their background, and what truly mattered to them.
The Art of Asking Questions (Beyond Business)
One of the biggest mistakes people make is keeping conversations strictly transactional. If you want to build lasting relationships, you have to ask deeper questions. When I was negotiating my deal, I asked things like:
- Where are you from?
- What do your kids love to do?
- What was your dream job as a child?
These questions may seem random and even a bit in their business, but they help people feel seen and heard. In today’s world, where most conversations are rushed and surface-level, standing out means showing you genuinely care.
Stop Looking for the “Right” Room—Be the Right Person
People often say, “Get in the right rooms with the right people.” But what does that even mean? Instead of constantly searching for a specific type of connection, focus on being the kind of person people want to work with.
- Be confident in yourself.
- Show up consistently—not just when you need something.
- Offer value in every interaction.
When you invest in all relationships, big and small, they naturally lead to new opportunities. Your reputation and network will grow organically.
Overcommunication Builds Trust
Many people fail to follow up or keep clients in the loop. In my experience, overcommunicating shows dedication. Even before someone asks, I provide updates, check-in, and ensure they feel informed.
Here’s an easy way to do it:
- Send quick check-in emails.
- Follow up before deadlines.
- Offer insights or suggestions proactively.
If you want people to trust you, stay 10 steps ahead and show you care.
Your Challenge
I want you to take action today. Who is your dream client or connection? Write their name down. Now, think about how you can offer them value. Reach out, whether through a DM, an email, or a personalized pitch. If they don’t respond, use that as practice for the next one.
The universe rewards those who create space for what they want. Start building the relationships that will take you to the next level.
